KGA were appointed to undertake the detailed design and site monitoring of the boiler room replacement scheme at Seymour Road Academy. As part of the proposed works the existing boiler plant and primary heating distribution were stripped out and replaced with modular high efficiency condensing boilers with inverter speed drive pumps. The Building Management System (BMS) was upgraded as part of the works and interfaced within the existing fire alarm system and Manchester City Council TREND control system. New lighting and power supplies were installed in the plantroom. The boiler house replacement works was undertaken during school term times. Heating was maintained through the existing boiler plant which was transferred to the new boiler plant. New boiler plant was connected to the schools 80 year old single pipe heating system via plate heat exchanger. The open vent heating system was converted to a sealed system and fitted with suitable expansion.
